I Signed the Constitution

The National Constitution Center sponsors a program, I Signed the Constitution, to encourage citizens to publicly acknowledge their dedication to the ideals of the U.S. Constitution.

Be counted with the thousands who have signed the Constitution, by signing the Constitution on Monday, September 17, in the LLRC - Lake Worth (2nd floor).

Constitution Day, September 17

On September 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed by 39 of the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, PA. Although the U.S. Constitution is the oldest and the shortest of all of the written national constitutions, no official recognition of this significant event was established until Louise Leigh founded Constitution Day Inc. in 1997. President George W. Bush signed Public Law 108-447 designating September 17th as Constitution Day or Citizenship Day. This federal holiday is not observed by granting time off work; however, all publicly funded educational institutions must provide a program on the history of the U.S. Constitution on September 17. If Constitution Day falls on a weekend or on another holiday, then observance of the holiday is on an adjacent weekday.The LLRC of Palm Beach Community College in Lake Worth observes Constitution Day by planning activities with various classes to commemorate the signing of the Constitution.

FACC Celebrates National Library Week with Book Sale

The LLRC and the PBCC Chapter of the Florida Association of Community Colleges (FACC) will hold its annual book sale during National Library Week. The book sale will be held on Monday and Tuesday (April 13 - 14) in the Technology Center Courtyard from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Library books, textbooks, fiction, reference materials, video tapes and much more will be for sale to benefit the PBCC FACC Chapter and the FACC Scholarship Fund for employees and students.

Eat That Frog (Kindle Project)

Professor Cynthia Johnson's Strategies classes joined in our Kindle Reader Project this semester. Her classes were assigned to read either Eat That Frog or Gifted Hands. Both books were were on our three-hour Kindle Reserves.

On Wednesday, April 15, the classes will meet in the Gallery of the LLRC to discuss the book, Eat That Frog, and express their thoughts about Kindles at PBCC.

• Greg Mortenson, author of the books, will be speaking at the Literacy Luncheon on March 27. Eight students will be attending the luncheon. Students in the participating classes discussing the book are eligible to attend. Announcement of winners will be after Spring Break.
